The Faroese Boat

The Faroe Islands Postal Service has issued a new sheetlet of 9 stamps that have a postage value of 7KR named "The Faroese Boat" on the 25th of February 2013. The sheetlet is being issued to remind the people about the history of the Faroe Island light boats and how they were build and used. Traditionally these boats were built using a technique call clinker-build which is a process of building the boats with overlapping wooden planks. A boat building method used by Norsemen over 1000 years ago that gave them the power to roam the seas and explored lands in the North Atlantic. Today, these boats can be found in a number of sizes ranging from 17 feet long for 2 or 3 people to 28 foot long for 12 people. As in the past, boats are fundamental to life for the Faroese people who use them for fishing and travel between their islands.

"The Faroese Boat" stamps can be purchase as sheetet of 9, Presentation Pack and FDC. The size of the each stamp 25.50 x 22.72mm, 65.88 x 22.72mm and the sheetlet size is 125 x 90mm. They were printed by Beijing Stamp Printing House, China using the offset/intaglio printing method.
