Faroe Islands Vintage Cars

The Faroe Islands Postal Service has issued three new stamps with a postage value of 13kr named "Vintage Cars" on the 9th of September 2011. These stamps depict cars that were manufacture in 1920 and 1950 and have a unique story behind each of them. Each of the cars is listed below with its unique story.

  • The Black Lorry (top left) - arrived in the Faroe Islands on the 6 May 1922 and was the first vehicle on the islands. The car arrived in the town of Torshavn where people look at it with great interest. At this time on the islands there was only horse-drawn carriages and nobody with the skill to drive a car. So the car was therefore pushed to it next destination Quillingsgard.
  • Morris Commercial Cars Ltd. England Model 1929 (top right) this vehicle arrive in Kvivik on 14 June 1934. It was originally used by the Hillerods Police district and had been without license plates for some years. It had only a front cab and hood with no load or cab in the back of the vehicle. A cab from a Chevrolet bus was removed and fitted onto this England Model 1929 vehicle creating a bus that was register and approved on the 12 June 1935.
  • De Luxe Model (bottom) this car was built in the town of Torshavn in the 1950's by a norwegian named Almar Nordhaug. It was the first car in the Faroe Islands with a cassette player with four loudspeakers. The car was moved to Norway by its owner and driven for a number of years. Unfortunately, the car is no longer in existence. The last reliable report the Faroes had was that it is being used as a decorative display in a furniture store in Oslo.
