Faroe Islands Postal Services 2005 Issue

Faroe Islands Postal Service will issue a new stamp sheet with nine stamps that each have a postage value of 7.50 KR named "Art by Jogvan Waagstein" on the 9th of September 2005. Each of these stamps depict a beautiful landscape painting by Jogvan Waagstein a famous Faroe Islands painter. Jogvan Waagstein (1879-1949) who was a music teacher by trade was also very interested in painting. In 1919 he attended classes at the National Drawing Teachers academy in Copenhagen to study the techniques of painting. With his new found skills, he began to paint the countrysides of the Faroes. He would go out into the countryside with his easel and paintbox, seeking out the beautiful views of mountains and valleys and painting dramatic scenes with surging streams and foaming waves. He exhibited these paintings in many Faroese towns and for the first time the Faroe Islands public seen images of their own countryside. Today the main theme for Faroese painters is the beautiful landscapes found throughout the Faroe Islands.

"Art by Jogvan Waagstein" stamps can be purchased as Sheet of 6, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 32.5mm x 40.0mm, and the sheet size is 143mm x 150mm. The perforation size for each stamp is 13. The stamps will be printed by Osterreichische Staatsdruckerei Gmbh using the Offset printing process.
