Year of the Rabbit

The Australia Postal Service has issued a new stamp pair that has postage values of 60 Cents and $1.80 named "Year of the Rabbit" on the 11th of January 2011. These stamps are being issued to celebrate the Lunar New Year that is part of the heritage of Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Tibetan, and Mongolian peoples. The Chinese zodiac is made up of 12-year cycle and Chinese animal signs are used for dating the years. The recurring animal year cycle is Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat(or Sheep), Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Year of the Rabbit is the forth sign in the Chinese zodiac and begins on Feb 3, 2011 and ends on January 22, 2012.

"Year of the Rabbit" stamps can be purchased as a pair, Mini-sheet, Gutter, Stamp Pack, Prestige booklet, or FDC's. The size of the stamps is 26mm x 37.5mm with a stamp perforation of 13.86 x 14.6 using the 2cm reference. They were printed by McKeller Renown using the Lithography printing process with Tullis Russell paper.
