It's that time again when postal services around the world issue their new Christmas Stamps. This year we decided to cover two or three different countries a week in our newsletter until Christmas. This week we visit Christmas Island, San Marino, and Switzerland. Each of their 2012 Christmas stamp issues are shown above and some information about them is listed below.

Christmas Island issued two new Christmas stamps named "Santa Sand Sculpture and Trimming the Tree" on November 1, 2012. These stamps were designed by John White who works for the Australia Post Design Studio. They depict Santa who is aided by a Greater Frigatebird, a Green Turtle, and a Red Crab creating sand sculptures. They also depict wrapped Christmas gifts being delivered by land and by air. The stamps have postage values of $0.55 and $1.60. They can be purchased as a set of 2, self-adhesive sheets of 5 ($1.60), chequebook of 20 ($1.60), Gutters of 10, Mini-sheet, Stamp pack or FDC. The size of each stamp is 26mm x 37.5mm with a 14.6 x 13.86 perforation using the 2cm reference. The size of the Souvenir sheet is 135mm x 80mm. They were printed by RA print using the Lithography printing process with Tullis Russel paper.

San Marino postal service issued a new Christmas stamp named "Christmas 2012" on 16th of October 2012. Designed by Marco Ventura, this stamp is dedicated to nativity and is a representation of an oil painting. It depicts "Madonna con bambino" (Our Lady with Child) and has a background image of Mount Titano of San Marino. Two archangels seem to protect the family sacredness. The stamp has a postage value of 0.85 Euro and can be purchased as singles, Sheets or FDC's. The size of the stamp is 30mm x 40mm, with a perforation size of 14 x 14 using the 2cm reference. They were printed using the four color offset printing process.

Switzerland issued three new stamps named "Christmas Stamps 2012" on November 22, 2012. These three stamp are filled with twinkling fairy lights that have stars, ribbons, trees, angels, violens, books and bulbs plus a little more in the background. They were designed by Paul Buhler, Zurich. There postage values are 85, 100, and 140 chf. They can be purchased as a set of 3, Blocks of 4, Folder, Collection sheet, Sheets of 20, or various FDCs. The size of each stamp is 28mm x 33mm with a perforation size of 13 1/2 x 13 1/4 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Carter Security Printing, in La Loupe, France, using the four color Offset and colored glitter printing process with 220gms white stamp paper.
