It's that time again when postal services around the world issue their new Christmas Stamps. This year we decided to cover two or three different countries a week in our newsletter until Christmas. This week we visit Canada, Australia and Iceland. Each of their 2012 Christmas stamp issues are shown above and some information about them is listed below.

Canada issued three new Christmas stamps named "Christmas Cookies" on October 15, 2012. These stamps were designed by Helene L'Heureux and they depict popular Christmas cookie shapes. When you look at them they can make your mouth water and give you a craving for some Christmas cookies. The stamps have postage values of Permanent domestic rate, $1.05 and $1.80 . They can be purchased in Booklets of 6 or 12, Souvenir sheet, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 22mm x 24mm with a 13+ simulated perforation using the 2cm reference. The size of the Souvenir sheet is 85mm x 54mm. They were printed by Lowe Martin using the Lithography printing process with Tullis Russel paper.

Australia issued five new stamps named "Christmas 2012" on 1st of November 2012. These stamps were design by Jo Mure who is part of the Australia Post Design Studio team. The stamps feature two Christmas story scenes with Virgin Mary and baby Jesus on the 55c, and the $1.60 depicts the three kings who have gifts for the baby Jesus with an angel in the background. Both of these stamps are based on a wool and silk tapestry in the Art Gallery of South Australia. The other three stamps are very colorful and depict a reindeer (55c), Presents (55c), and decorative Christmas bells (60c). They can be purchased as two different sets, assorted sheetlet, assorted booklets (Raindeer, Gifts, Bells Only), Stamp pack, or FDC's. The size of the Reindeer, Gifts and Bells stamps is 26mm x 37.5mm, with a perforation size of 14.6 x 13.86 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by McKellar Renown using the Lithography printing process with Tullis Russell paper.

Iceland issued two new stamps named "Christmas Stamps 2012" on November 1, 2012. These stamps were design by Kristin Ragna Gunnarsdottir and feature scenes from the story of the Night Troll which is an Icelandic folk tale written by Jon Arnason. According to the story a peasant girl was confronted by a Troll one night who recited verses in praise of her beauty. In turn, she also recited her own verses to the troll. At sun rise the Troll was gone and a large rock was found in the farmyard. It became clear to the girl that the Troll had turn to stone. The postage values of these stamps is 50g (120ISK) domestic rate and 50g Europe (175ISK) They can be purchased as a set of 2, 50g domestic as booklet of 10, Sheets of 10, or various FDCs. The size of each stamp is 32.5 x 43mm with a perforation size of 13+ using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Joh. Enschede Printing using the Offset Lithography + Pantone gold+kurz gold-foil printing process with 196g Sheets and 246g (booklet) paper.
