It's that time again when postal services around the world issue their new Christmas Stamps. This year we decided to cover two or three different countries a week in our newsletter until Christmas. This week we visit Iceland, Switzerland and Ireland. Each of their 2011 Christmas stamp issues are shown above and some information about them is listed below.

Iceland issued two new Christmas stamps named "Christmas 2011" on November 3, 2011. These stamps were designed by Hlynur Olafsson and Guobjorg Ringsted. Each of the stamps depicts goldwork embroidery, a rich national heritage of Iceland that involves techniques used for Icelandic national costumes. They can be purchased as singles, Booklet of 10, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 31mm x 37mm with a 13+ perforation using the 2cm reference. They were printed by Osterreichische Staatsdruckerei using the Offset Lithography + embossment printing process with 190gms self-adhesive paper.

Switzerland issued three new stamps named "Christmas 2011" on November 24, 2011. These stamps were design by Raphael Volery of Zurich Switzerland. They feature three different Christmas time scenes beginning with a Chapel on the 85chf, a Christmas Tree on the 100chf, and a chalet on the 140chf stamp. These stamps can be purchased as a set of 3, assorted sheets of 20, assorted 4 blocks, or various FDC's. The size of each stamp is 33mm x 28mm with a perforation size of 13 1/4 x 13 1/2 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Carter Security Printing, France using the Offset 4 color printing process with 220gms self adhesive paper.

Ireland issued three new stamps named "Christmas 2011" on November 10, 2011. These stamps were design by Steve Simpson and they feature two modern tree decorations of bright colorful baubles(0.55 Euro), and Christmas stars (0.82 Euro). The third stamp appears in a booklet and features the blessed Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus making their way to Egypt (0.55 Euro). These stamps can be purchased as a strip of 2 (0.55e baubles & 0.82e Stars), and a booklet pair or booklet of 26 (0.55e), or FDC. The size of each stamp is 56mm x 25mm for the baubles and stars, and 25mm x 30mm for the booklet stamp. The baubles and star stamps have a Perforation size of 11 x 11 1/4 using the 2cm reference; and they will be printed by Label Art Ltd. using the HP Indigo high resolution digital print process. The booklet stamps will be printed by Joh. Enschedé Security Print using the Lithography printing process.
