Christmas Islands Christmas 2011 Stamp Issue

It's that time again when postal services around the world issue their new Christmas Stamps. This year we decided to cover two or three different countries a week in our newsletter until Christmas. This week we visit Canada, Australia and Christmas Island. Each of their 2011 Christmas stamp issues are shown above and some information about them is listed below.

Canada issued three new Christmas stamps named "Christmas-Stained Glass" on November 1, 2011. The stamps were designed by Andrew Perro. Each of the stamps depicts a section of a stained glass window from the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Kingston, ON. They depict the story of Jesus birth with an angel appearing to Joseph on the permanent domestic rate, a nativity scene on the $1.03, and the $1.75 depicts the Epiphany. They can be purchased in Booklets of 6 or 12, Souvenir sheet, Gutter of 12 or FDC. The size of each stamp is 24mm x 32mm with a 13+ simulated perforation using the 2cm reference, and the size of the Souvenir sheet is 116mm x 60mm. They were printed by Lowe Martin using the Lithography printing process with Tullis Russel paper.

Australia issued five new stamps named "Christmas 2011" on October 31, 2011. These stamps were design by Jo Mure and Simone Sakinofsky who are part of the Australia Post Design Studio team. The stamps feature two biblical story scenes with Virgin Mary and baby Jesus on the 55c, and the $1.50 depicts the three kings, Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar, who are journeying from the east to Bethlehem to worship the Christ Child. The other three stamps depict a Christmas Tree (55c), Presents (55c) and a decorative Christmas star (60c). They can be purchased as a set of 5, assorted sheetlet, assorted booklets, Stamp pack, or FDC's. The sizes of each stamp is 26mm x 37.5mm, and 37.5mm x 26mm with a perforation size of 14.6 x 13.86, and 13.86 x 14.6 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by McKellar Renown using the Lithography printing process with Tullis Russell paper.

Christmas Island issued two new stamps named "Christmas Island Christmas" on October 31, 2011. These stamps were design by Jennifer Scalzo and feature the symbols of Christmas integrated with the islands natural environment. The 55 cents stamp named Pulling Crackers depicts a classic Christmas Island setting where Santa and a Crab pull a Christmas cracker. The $1.50 stamp named Father Christmas arrives on Christmas Island depicts Santa snorkeling the sites of Christmas Island before arriving on the island. These stamps can be purchased as a set of 2, 55c as booklet of 10, $1.30 as sheetlet of 5, Gutters of 10, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 37 x 26mm with a Perforation size of 13.86 x 14.6 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by RA Printing using the Lithography printing process with Tullis Russell paper.
