Guernsey Festive Foliage Christmas 2008 Stamp Issue

It's that time again when postal services around the world issue their new Christmas Stamps. This year we decided to cover two or three different countries a week in our newsletter until Christmas. This week we visit Ireland and Guernsey. Each of their 2008 Christmas stamp issues are shown above and some information about them is listed below.

Ireland issued three new stamps named "Christmas 2008" on November 7th, 2008. The stamps depict scenes from the Nativity. On one of the 55c stamp Jesus is shown in a manger. On the other 55c stamp Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus are shown fleeing to Egypt following a warning from an angel. The 82c stamp features the Annunciation when the angel Gabriel visited Mary in Nazareth and announced to her that she would give birth to Jesus. A description is listed below:

Christmas 2008 stamps were designed by James Hanley. The stamps have postage values of 55c and 82c. They can be purchased as a set of 2 (Joseph and Mary stamps only), Sheets of 16 (Joseph and Mary stamps Only), Booklet of 26 (55c Manger Only), or FDC. The Joseph and Mary stamp size is 40.64mm x 29.79mm and the Manger stamp size is 25mm x 30mm. Each has a 15 x 14 perforation using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Irish Security Stamp Printing Ltd. Walsall Security Printers using the Lithography printing method. A quantity of 1.9 million 55c, 1.5 million 82c (Joseph and Mary stamps), and 30.29 million 55c (Manger) will be printed.

Guernsey issued 12 new stamps named "Festive Foliage" on October 30th, 2008. These Christmas stamps depict a mix of traditional festive ones and those we associate with the bleak midwinter. A description of each is listed below:

Festive Foliage stamps were design by Karl Taylor Photography and have postage values of 29p, 34p, 40p, 48p, 51p, 53p, and 74p. They can be purchase as a set of 12, Sheets of 50, Presentation Pack, or FDC. Each stamp size is 31.5mm x 26.1mm, and have a 13.25 x 13.75 perforation using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Joh Enschede using the offset Lithography printing method with 110 gsm PVA adhesive paper.
