Ireland Christmas 2007 Stamp Issue

It's that time again when postal services around the world issue their new Christmas Stamps. This year we decided to cover two different countries a week in our newsletter until Christmas. This week we visit Switzerland and Ireland. Each of their 2007 Christmas stamp issues are shown above and their specification are listed below.

Switzerland issued three new stamps named "Christmas Customs". They were designed by Michele Haas and issued on November 13, 2007.

"Christmas Customs" stamps are being issued in three different sheets with postage values of 85, 1.00 and $1.30 CHF. The stamps depict various present day Christmas customs in Switzerland. The 85 CHF stamp depicts a Switzerland Christmas Fair which started in the 1960's. These fairs include various Christmas decoration and retail outlets. The 100 CHF stamp depicts a decorated Christmas Tree with candles and glass balls. And the 130 CHF stamp depicts the Christmas Eve gifts which is a highlight of the Christmas celebration. Each stamp is described as follows:

"Christmas Customs" stamps can be purchased as a set of 3, Set of 4 Blocks, Sheets of 20, Folder, Collection sheet, or set on FDC. The size of each stamp is 28mm x 33mm and the sheet size is 142mm x 190mm. The perforation size is 13.75 x 13.5 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Carter Security Printing, France using the Offset printing process with 110 gms paper.

Ireland issued three Christmas stamps with traditional images designed by Sean O. Brogain and named "Christmas 2007". The stamps depict the Adoration of the Shepherds (55c vert), Presentation in the Temple (55c) and the Three Wise Men (78c). The stamps were issued on November 8, 2007. Each is described as follows:

"Christmas 2007" stamps can be purchased as a set of 3. The vertical 55 cent stamp is self-adhesive and can only be purchased in a booklet of 26. The two Horizontal stamps are gummed and come in sheetlets of 16. FDC can be purchased with all three stamps. The size of each horizontal stamp is 25mm x 30mm and the size of the horizontal booklet stamp is 40.64mm x 29.79mm. Perforation for all three stamps is 14 x 15 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Irish Security Stamp Printing Ltd. (gummed stamps) and Australia Post-Sprintpak (self-adhesive booklets) using the Lithography printing process.
