Iceland Christmas 2007 Stamp Issue

It's that time again when postal services around the world issue their new Christmas Stamps. This year we decided to cover two different countries a week in our newsletter until Christmas. This week we visit Canada and Iceland. Each of their 2007 Christmas stamp issues are shown above and their specification are listed below.

Canada issued three new stamps named "Hope, Joy and Peace" and one new stamp named "Reindeer". Hope, Joy and Peace stamp set was designed by Tandem Design Associates Ltd. and issued on November 1, 2007; and the Reindeer was designed by Helene L. Heureux and issued on November 1, 2007.

Hope, Joy and Peace stamps are three different booklets with postage values of 39c, 93c and $1.55 The stamps depict a Nativity Scene for hope created by artist Stephanie Carter, a Trumpeting Angel for Joy created by artist Steve Hepburn, and a Dove for Peace created by Jonathan Milne. Each stamp has a simulated perforation and is 30.75 square in size. They have been printed by Lowe-Martin using the Lithography printing process with Tullis Russell paper and pressure sensitive gum. The stamps can be purchased in three different booklets.

Reindeer stamp depicts a reindeer in mid-leap that appears to be taking flight. It has a postage value of 52 Cents and its size is 24mm x 24mm square with a simulated perforation. It will be printed by Lowe Martin using the Lithography printing process with Tullis Russel paper and Pressure sensitive gum. The stamps can be purchased in a booklet of 12 stamps. The quantity printed will be 44 million stamps.

Iceland issued a two booklet Christmas set designed by Hlynur Olafsson and named "Icelandic Leaf Bread". The stamps depict round pieces of bread with various patterns cut into the batter to make the bread as festive as possible. Many people in Iceland feel that this custom is an indispensable part of the Christmas celebrations. Both stamps were issued on November 11, 2007. Each is described as follows:

The two Icelandic Leaf Bread stamps have postage values of 60 and 80 ISK. Their size is 36mm x 36mm with a booklet size of 70mm x 100mm. They will be printed by Cartor Security Printing using the Offset printing process with self-adhesive paper. Each stamp can be purchase in booklet of 10.
