Mountains

Canada Postal Service has issued eight new mountain stamps on the 1st of October 2002. The name of the set is "Mountains." And each of the stamps depict a different mountain in the world. All of the stamps have a Canadian postage value of 48 cents. Each mountain depicted on the stamps shown above is as follows:

  • Row 1 left: Mount Logan - Located in Kluane National Park in southwest Yukon, It is Canada's tallest peak that reaches a height of 5,959 meters.
  • Row 1 right: Mount Elbrus - Located in the Russian Federation, it is part of the Caucasus Mountain Range. Mount Elbrus altitude is 5,633 meters.
  • Row 2 left: Kilimanjaro - Located in northeastern Tanzania, Africa. Kilimanjaro has a height of 5,894 meters.
  • Row 2 right: Vinson Massif - Located in Antarctic in the Sentinel Mountain Range. it has a height of 4,897 meters.
  • Row 3 left: Puncak Jaya - Located in western New Guinea, in the province of Irian Jaya. It has a height of 4,884 meters.
  • Row 3 right: Mount Everest
  • - Located between the China/Nepal border. It is the world's tallest summit standing at 8,850 meters.
  • Row 4 left: Aconcagua
  • - Located in the province of Mendoza in Argentina. It towers among the Andes Mountains at 6,962 meters.
  • Row 4 right: Mount Mckinley - Located in the Alaska Range in North America. It has a height of 6,194 meters.
The Mountain stamps can be purchase as a souvenir sheet that comes with a decorative folder, or two First Day Covers. The souvenir sheet size is 36 mm x 29 mm - 32mm (horizontal). The perforations is Diecut and the stamps have a self adhesive gum. A quantity of 5,000,000 stamps will be printed by "Lowe-Martin" using the lithography Printing process in 9 colors. A general 4 sides tagging will be used.
