Roadside Attraction

The Canada Postal Service has issued 4 new stamps that have a postage value of permanent domestic rate named "Roadside Attraction" on the 7th of July 2011. This is the third issue for this series that started in 2009. In this issue the roadside signs were found in the Eastern Provinces of Canada. The four signs selected are: The Worlds Largest Lobster, The Wild Blueberry, The Big Potato and The Giant Squid. Each sign location and purpose is described in the table as follows:

  • The World's Largest Lobster - is located in Shediac, New Brunswick which is know for its lobster.
  • The Wild Blueberry - is located in Oxford Scotia and is know as the Blueberry Capital of Canada.
  • The Big Potato - is located in O'leary in the western part of Prince Edward Island. It is the home of The Prince Edward Island Potato Museum which is surrounded by fertile potato growing fields.
  • The Giant Squid - is located is Glovers Harbor, Newfoundland where in 1878, a fishermen landed a giant 16.7 meter long squid, recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the biggest creature of its kind in the world.

"Roadside Attractions" stamps can be purchased as Booklet of 8, Souvenir Sheet of 4, or FDC. The size of these stamps is 35.25mm x 41.50mm, and the size of the Souvenir Sheet is 98mm x 109mm. The perforation is kiss cut with a 13+ perforation using the 2cm reference. They were printed by Lowe Martin using the Lithography printing process. Total quantity printed is 3,440,000 Booklets and 185,000 Souvenir sheets
