Blue Whale

The Canada Postal Service has issued a new stamp that has a postage value of $10.00 named "Blue Whale" on the 4th of October 2010. This definitive stamp is the ninth and newest addition to the Canadian Wildlife series. Eight other stamps in this series are still available and listed in the table below:

  • $1.00 White Tale Deer
  • $1.00 Atlantic Walrus
  • $2.00 Peregrine Falcon
  • $2.00 Sable Island Horse
This Blue Whale stamp is the biggest and highest stamp denomination Canada Post has ever produced and has many security features to prevent fraud.

The Blue Whale weights between 80 and 180 metric tonnes, and can reach lengths of more than 30 meters. It can travel at speeds of up to 48 km/hr and can even project its low frequency voice under water for hundreds of miles.

"Blue Whale" stamps can be purchased as a single, Uncut press sheet of 18, Pane of 2 and FDC. The size of the stamp is 128mm x 49mm and has a stamp perforation of 13+ using the 2cm reference. It was printed by Canadian Bank Note using the Lithography, silkscreen and intaglio printing Process. A total of 1.5 million stamp panes will be printed and 1,000 signed and numbered Uncut press sheet printed. Note: there will be a very limited supply of single stamps.
