Lest We Forget

The Canada Postal Service has issued a new stamp that has a postage value of 54 cents named "Lest We Forget" on the 19th of October 2009. The stamp, FDC, and Souvenir Sheet depict close-up photographs of the National War Memorial sculpture in Ottawa, Canada. They also features vibrant red poppies that refers to Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae and his well-know poem "In Flanders Fields". Every year on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Canadians share a moment of silence to honor the memory of the men and women of Canada Armed Forces who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country. It gives the Canadian people and others an opportunity to express their sorrow for the loss that war produces and to thank them for the freedom they enjoy today.

"Lest We Forget" stamp can be purchased as a booklet of 10, Souvenir Sheet, and FDC. The size of the stamp is 29.25mm x 32.25mm with a simulated Perforation. Souvenir sheet size is 130mm x 100mm with a perforation size of 13+ using the 2cm reference. They were printed by Lowe Martin using the Lithography printing process with Tullis Russell paper and pressure sensitive gum. Souvenir sheet has P.V.A. Gum.
