The Australian Ballet: 50 Years

The Australian Postal Service has issued a new se-tenant pair of stamps that have a postage value of 60 cents named "The Australian Ballet: 50 Years" on the 16th of October 2012. These new stamps have been issued to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Australian Ballet. It was formed in 1962 under the guidance of founding artistic director Peggy van Praagh. She started the company with the building of a new ballet school and found continual employment for the school dancers. Their inaugural performance started with the classic "Swan Lake" which opened at Sydneys Her Majestys Theatre on 2nd November 1962. From there they started to perform internationally with a variety of different shows which earn them an excellent reputation on the world stage. In this 50th anniversary year it returns to its first performance with a new production of Swan Lake.

"The Australian Ballet: 50 Years" stamps can be purchase as a pair, Sheets of 10, Stamp Pack, Roll of 200 and FDCs. The size of each stamp is 26mm x 37.5mm with a perforation size of 14.6 x 13.86 using the 2cm reference. The stamps were printed by McKellar Renown using the Lithography printing method with Tullis Russell B90 self adhesive paper.
