Postal Services 2010 Joint Issue
Designed by Lynette Traynor

The Australian Postal Service will issue five new stamps that have postage values of $0.55 and $1.45 named "Kokoda" on the 20th of April 2010. Each of the stamps feature different views and times of the Kokoda Trail. In 1942 the Australian soldiers halted the Japanese invasion of Papua and New Guinea. During the campaign strong links were created between the Australian soldiers, Papuans and New Guineans. Six hundred Australian soldiers gave their lives during the Kokoda campaign; and the Papuan and New Guinean civilians contributed to the Australian victory by ferrying sick and wounded to safety. To mark the 60th anniversary of Kokoda, a memorial was built at Isurava, where the Australian soldiers had temporarily halted the Japanese advance. Each of the stamps are described in the list below:

  • Kokoda Campaign 1942 (55 Cents Top left)
  • Kokoda Campaign 1942 (55 Cents Top middle)
  • Kokoda Veterans (55 Cents Top right)
  • Kokoda Today (55 Cents Bottom left)
  • Kododa Isurava Memorial ($1.45 Bottom right)

"Kokoda" stamps can be purchased as a set of five stamps, Minisheet, Stamp Pack, Booklet of 10-55 Cents, Collector pack, or FDC's. The size of each stamp is 26mm x 37.5mm with a perforation of 13.86 x 14.60 using the 2cm reference. The Minisheet size is 160mm x 90mm. They will be printed by McKellar Print using the Lithography printing process with Tullis Russell paper.
