50 Years on The Melbourne Olympics

Australia Postal Service has issued two new se-tenant stamp pairs that have postage values of 50 Cents and $1.00 named "50 Years on The Melbourne Olympics" on the 1st of November 2006. These new stamps are being issued to commemorate the passage of time while celebrating the heritage of the host city and the Olympic Games in the 1950's. During the 1950s Melbourne was Australia's fastest-growing city and was characterized by materialism, optimism and innovations. The games were the catalyst for Australia's adoption of television and 1956 also saw Melbourne's first escalator installed and its first espresso machine. These stamps were created by linking the original 1956 stamps with contemporary photographs of Melbourne's Yarra River and Collins Street.

"50 Years on The Melbourne Olympics" stamps can be purchased as a set of 2 se-tenant pairs, Sheets of 50, Stamp Pack, Set of Gutter Strips, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 37.5mm x 26mm with a Perforation size of 13.86 x 14.6 per 2cm reference. They will be printed by SEP Sprint using the Lithography Printing process with Tullis Russell paper.
