The Queen's 80th Birthday

Australia Postal Service will issued two new stamps that have postage values of 50 Cents and $2.45 named "The Queen's 80th Birthday" on the 19th of April 2006. The stamps are being issued to honor Queen Elizabeth II, 80th Birthday and the 50th Anniversary of the hanging of the Pietro Annigoni portrait of the Queen. The 50 Cents stamp depicts the Queen wearing the regalia of the Order of the Garter in a portrait painted by Pietro Annigoni. This is the first time this renowned portrait has been used on an Australian stamp. The $2.35 stamp depicts the queen in a photographic portrait taken by Cecil Beaton at the same time. Both of these stamps will be set into a miniature sheet.

"The Queen's 80th Birthday" stamps can be purchased as a set of 2, Sheet of 50, Miniature sheet, Prestige booklet, Gutter set, Stamp pack, or FDC's. The size of each stamp is 26mm x 37.5mm and the size of the miniature sheet is 105mm x 70mm. The perforation size is 14.6 x 13.86 per 2cm reference. They will be printed by SPC Sprint using the Lithography Printing process with Tullis Russell paper.
