Australian Wildflowers

Australian Postal Service will issued four new stamps that each have a postage value of $1.00, $2.00, $5.00 and $10.00 named "Australian Wildflowers" on the 7th of February 2006. These stamps depict 4 wild flowers species found in Australia and is the second issue in the series of Australian wildflowers. Each is identified as follows:

  • Pincushion Hakes ($1.00) - found in south-western Australia and is grown as an ornamental plant throughout the country.
  • Donkey Orchid ($2.00) - this attractive orchid grows up to 60cm high and is often found in dense colonies. It bears up to eight yellow flowers usually shaded with purple-brown.
  • Mangles Kangaroo Paw ($5.00) - are usually found in large numbers and present a spectacular display during the flowering season of August to November.
  • Waratah ($10.00) - is a shrub that grows to about 4 meters high. Its flowers bloom from September to November and it is found on the central coast and adjoining mountains of NSW.

"Australian Wildflowers" stamps can be purchased as single set of 4, Sheet of 50, Miniature sheet, Stamp pack, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 30mm x 25mm, and 30mm x 50mm each having a perforation size of 14.4 x 14. The stamps will be printed by SEP Sprint using the Lithography Printing process with Tullis Russell paper.
