Folk Music

The Aland Postal Service has issued a new stamp that has a postage value of 1,10 Euro named "Folk Music" on the 1st of August 2003. This new stamp honors the Aland Folk Music Association which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The Aland Folk Music Association was established in 1953 as a traditional folk music club, and is now the oldest folk music company in Swedish-speaking parts of Finland. When the club started it consisted of Fiddlers only. Today it has around 60 members that include guitars, piano, bass, accordion and singing. Over the years the association has published around ten booklets of music. A group named Spelevinkarna within the association has released music in recent years on CD, LP and cassette tape. On their 50th anniversary the Aland Folk Music Association plans to release a history, a CD and arrange a special anniversary party.

The "Folk Music" stamp can be purchased as a single stamp, FDC, Collector sheet, or Sheet of 30. The stamp size is 31.56mm x 30.59mm and has a perforation of 14. The stamp will be printed by De La Rue Plc using the four color Offset printing process with 110gms paper.
