Aland Scenery, Kokar and Jomala

The Aland Postal Service has issued two new stamps with postage values of (€0.75) (Kökar) and (€0.85) (Jomala) named "Aland Scenery, Kokar and Jomala" on the 28th of September 2011. This issue of these archipelago municipality of Kokar and Jomala will complete the Aland scenery series. Each are described in the list below:

  • Kokar - is an island situated in the outskirts of Aland archipelago and is also the southernmost Aland municipality. In the middle ages it was an important fairway between Sweden, Finland and the Baltic states. It is now a popular place for tourists and many come to visit the Otterbote Bronze Age site. An ancient settlement for seal hunters. Another popular tourists site is the church of Kokar which has a model pirate ship with 64 cannons hanging on it.
  • Jomala - is located in the middle of main Aland and also attracts tourists. One of these popular tourists attraction is the Prehistoric site found in Jettbole, a Stone-Age settlement dated to approx. 2500-2000 B.C. and is one the most renowned ancient sites in Finland. Another popular site is the kungso coast battery, one of ten coastal fortifications built by the Russians in Aland during the First World War.

"Aland Scenery, Kokar and Jomala" stamps can be purchase as singles, Sheets of 30, Gutter strips, or FDC's. The size of the stamps is 31.75mm x 36.51mm with a perforation size of 13 using the 2cm reference. They were printed by The Lowe Martin Group using the 4 color offset printing process with 135gms paper.
