Super Heroes

The Aland Finland Postal Service will issue three new stamps that have a postage value of 0.90 Euro named "Superheroes" on the 9th of May 2011. They will issue these stamps to honor Paul Gustafson who is an independent cartoonist that created many of the superheroes between 1938 and 1946. Paul was born in Saltvik, Aland in 1916. He created superheroes: The Angel, The Arrow, Black Panter, A-man, Quicksilver, Magno, The Human Bomb, Blackhawk, Jester, Rusty Ryan and Midnight. Three of his superheroes are also depicted above and described as follows:

ALIAS THE SPIDER (top left)
was introduced in 1940 by Quality Comics (later to become DC Comics). Dressed in a yellow shirt and blue shorts, the Spider used his expert archery skills fighting crime and injustice. Apart from his bow, he was only assisted by his car “The Black Widow” and his valet Chuck, who served Tom in both of his identities.
THE FANTOM OF THE FAIR (middle)
The Fantom of the Fair was first published in 1939 by Centaur Publications. His early adventures were set fighting threats at the 1939 New York World’s Fair, using his principal weapon, namely his ability to tamper with people’s memories, for example through hypnosis. He did not display any extraordinary powers, but his clenched fists were incredibly forceful.
THE ARROW (top right)
The Arrow was first published in 1938 by Centaur Publications. His principal weapon was his bow and arrow, but he also fought crime and saboteurs without any weapon. He was one of the first superheroes to wear a mask.
