Aland Scenery in Sund and Eckero Municipalities

The Aland Islands Postal Service has issued 2 new stamps that have postage values of 0.80 and 0.85 euros named "Aland Scenery in Sund and Eckero" on the 16th of September 2010. These new stamps are a continuation of the Aland scenery stamp series that feature scenery in each of Aland municipalities. Four municipalities remain and in 2010 Ekero and Sund get a chance to present themselves. Each municipality scenery and stamp is described in the table below:

  • Eckero is the westernmost municipality of both Aland and Finland. The Degersand beach in the village of Torp is southern Eckero is depicted on the 0.80 euro stamp. It is a popular outing spot for Alanders as well as tourists.
  • Sund lies on the eastern side of main Aland, approximately 20 kilometers from Mariehamn. This Europa 0.85 euro stamp depicts the scenery at Lillnasberget in Sund. At the top of this rock plateau standing some 60 meters above the sea, we find flat rock forests which is dominated by old pine trees. Below the steep and vertical decent of the rocks lie a hazel grove and a small natural meadow which is mowed every year

"Aland scenery in Sund and Eckero" stamps can be purchased as singles, Sheets, and FDC's. The size of the stamps is 31.75mm x 36.51mm with a stamp perforation of 13 x 13 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Cartor Security Printing using the offset printing Process with 102gms paper.
