Aland Postal Services 2007 Issue
Design by Cecilia Mattsson

Aland Postal Service will issue a new stamp with a postage value of 0.75 Euro named "Emigration" on the 9th of August 2007. The stamp depicts Aland windmills that were lithograph by the Aland artist Ture Bengtz. Emigration from Aland was the greatest between 1893-1924. About 25% of the Aland population acquired passports and moved to North America. One of these Aland residents who emigrated to America was artist Ture Bengtz. The stamp is being issued on his 100th Birthday.
There were many reasons why the population emigrated to North America. One of these reason was work. Finding work in Aland at this time was very difficult and most of the children of these families moved to America to get jobs. Even the head of some families worked in America and sent money home to their families in Aland.

"Emigration" stamp can be purchased as a single, Sheets of 2 x 15, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 36.5mm x 32mm with a 13 perforation using the 2cm reference. It will be printed by The Lowe Martin Group using the offset printing process with 102gsm paper. A quantity of 300,000 will be printed.
